Mayor of London reveals employment strategy
23/07/2008(14:46)

Boris Johnson has launched a new strategy to help improve future job opportunities for Londoners.

The capital's first skills and employment strategy, entitled London's Future, outlines the mayor's plans to get increasing numbers of people into employment over the next five years.

London currently has 30 per cent unemployment and London's Future outlines plans to work with employers to create better opportunities for skills and employment to help maintain the capital's economic position.

Boris Johnson, Mayor of London and chair of the London Skills and Employment Board, said: "It is simply not good enough in a city as prosperous as London that we have such high levels of unemployment and such a large number of people by-passed by the education system and left without the skills and qualifications needed to get a job in the capital."

A recent survey by graduate recruitment website Milkround found that the number of university leavers looking for jobs in the capital dropped to 60 per cent this year, compared to 71 per cent in 2007, personneltoday.com reported.
