Retail jobs boost for north-east
11/01/2008(14:31)

The opening of a new retail outlet in Jarrow next month could help to boost the local jobs market.

Fashion retailer Bonmarche is recruiting staff for its new store in the town centre, which will open on February 21st and replaces the Choices video shop, the Shields Gazette reports.

According to the newspaper, councillor Barrie Scorer from the Primrose ward said that the arrival of the new store was "wonderful news".

"I'm very pleased the store will create new jobs and will take over a prime spot in the shopping centre, following the closure of Choices," he commented.

Bonmarche intends recruiting a number of part-time sales assistants and a new assistant manager.

Founded in 1982, the company has grown to over 360 stores, employing 4,000 people across the country.

The retailer is to embark upon a programme of refurbishment and opening new stores in the future.
