A new coalition has been formed to combat the skills shortage in tourism and hospitality staff in Australia's Snowy Mountains.
SnowyStaff, Technical and Further Education (TAFE) New South Wales (NSW) and the Gold Coast Institute of TAFE are hoping to attract more people to the sector by 2010.
The Summit Sun reports that a new course at the Gold Coast TAFE will allow people to study for a diploma in advanced hospitality management, which incorporates working placements for the duration of the ski season.
Gillian Gray, business development and strategy manager for Gold Coast TAFE, told the newspaper that it aims to "address the skills shortage".
"The students will undertake work placement and ultimately employment within NSW ski resorts, Gold Coast Tourism and the hospitality and events industry at the completion of their studies," she added.
Education minister Jane Lomax-Smith, recently told the Recorder that apprenticeships give people a good "head start " in their chosen careers.
