The nursing, medical and care sectors witnessed a growth in vacancies, it is being claimed.
According to September's, Report on Jobs, from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (Rec) and KPMG, while UK labour markets deteriorated a rise in the number of jobs available was recorded by the three sectors.
Kevin Green, chief executive of the Rec, is calling on the government to reconsider the VAT staff hire concession, which he claims will cost UK employers £400 million.
Alan Nolan, director at KPMG, said: "Continuing pressure on both permanent and temporary placements may also see a radical overhaul of the manner in which the UK recruitment industry operates."
Meanwhile, it was reported last week by Personneltoday.com that thousands of retail jobs will be created by Argos.
The firm has announced its intentions to boost its workforce by 15,000 to deal with the seasonal surge in demand this Christmas.
According to the firm, many of its Christmas temps are kept on after the festive period.
