Online recruitment fairs remove many obstacles for jobseekers with accessibility issues, an expert has claimed.
According to Jayne Rowley, publishing director for Graduate Prospects, recruitment fairs that take place online offer similar opportunities to those that are face-to-face, with candidates having a chance to meet recruiters and even have private interviews online.
"Candidates can search the recruiters' details, make appointments and send their CVs or make online applications - very much like real fairs," she continued.
"For recruiters with diversity agendas or candidates with accessibility issues, this removes a lot of the obstacles thrown up by recruitment fairs in the real world," the expert added.
According to the Higher Education Statistics Agency, there were 319,260 first degree graduates in 2006-7, compared to 315,985 in 2005-06 - an increase of one per cent.
In 2006-07, 42 per cent of first degree graduates achieved their qualification in a science discipline, the same percentage as in the previous year.
