A new scheme aimed at redeveloping the site of the former MG Rover plant at Longbridge could create thousands of new jobs, it has been claimed.
The project could cost in the region of £500 million, creating both new employment opportunities and housing developments.
Mike Whitby, leader of Birmingham city council, said that "reinvigorating" the Longbridge site and bringing hi-tech companies to the region would help in "cementing the area's status as the real engine room for a prosperous" local economy, the BBC reports.
According to the Press Association, the plans may bring 10,000 jobs to the region and in addition to new housing, a new shopping centre is to be built and the local train station is to be redeveloped.
George Lord, leader of Worcestershire county council, said that the project would be the "one of the most important" regeneration schemes in the Midlands and that those involved are "determined to succeed".
