Employee skills 'not fully utilised'
08/07/2008(16:00)

UK employees think their skills are not fully utilised at work, a new study has shown.

A survey by Learndirect Business, a leading online learning provider, has found that 60 per cent of people surveyed feel they have additional skills that are "ignored" at work.

It also found that 82 per cent of the 2,000 people surveyed had never been asked by their employers about additional skills or talents which they may have developed outside of work.

Skills ranging from IT, writing or salesmanship were identified by employees as abilities which their company "could make use of".

Kirstie Donnelly, director of products and marketing for Learndirect Business, said that bosses should "maximise employees' full potential".

"Effective training is the key to unlocking hidden skills and ensuring employees meet day-to-day business objectives," she added.

Fresh Business Thinking reports that 23 per cent of people voted Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, as the superhero boss that most UK employees would like to have.
