IT jobs 'more credit crunch-proof'

IT jobs are "more credit crunch-proof" than those in other sectors, one expert has claimed.
According to careers author Sarah Berry IT-related jobs are "fairly secure at the moment" as companies rely on the skills of their employees rather than outsourcing.
She advised IT workers to "become a more valuable asset to the company" by improving skills such as web design or programming.
"Many of the IT-related companies are looking in house to update their website, and perhaps make a more direct route to the customer: develop their ecommerce. That's why we've pinpointed those sectors as perhaps being more credit crunch-proof," Ms Berry continued.
The top ten credit-crunch proof jobs identified in research by the Learning and Skills Council include IT security professionals, software testers, web designers, network engineers and computer programmers.
As these roles are essential to the basic running of any enterprise, they are therefore less likely to be cut in times of financial difficulty, the organisation claims.
