Eco-friendly development creates jobs in Peterborough
12/08/2008(11:31)

A new environmentally-friendly development in Peterborough could bring a jobs boost to the region, it has been claimed.

Online news resource 24dash reports that the proposed zero-carbon neighbourhood, featuring 344 new homes, open spaces and commercial buildings, is being undertaken by pPod, which was recently named as the preferred developer.

Work on the project is expected to begin in late 2009.

Commenting on the development, Richard Ellis, chair of the East of England Development Agency, told the news provider: "It will be an exemplar project which will draw on and expand the expertise of the region’s environmental technology businesses, creating jobs and raising skills."

He added that it would help local workers and companies maintain their global competitiveness in a sector which is estimated to be worth billions in a few years time.

In related news, a planned windfarm in Norfolk is set to be the fourth largest in the UK and create a number for jobs for local residents.
