The "Facebook generation" of graduates will feel "entirely comfortable" communicating with employers online in the future, a recruitment expert has claimed.
According to Jayne Rowley, publishing director for Graduate Prospects, social networking can act as "a very useful source of leads for jobs", and such sites are extending their reach into more professional areas.
"The more resources a graduate can identify, the more choice they are giving themselves," she added.
According to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) in 2006-07 there were 319,260 first degree graduates, compared to 315,985 in 2005-06 - an increase of one per cent.
In November 2007, a survey into the career progression of graduations by the Higher Education Statistics Agency found that three years after they were first surveyed, the percentage of graduates in full-time paid employment totalled 74 per cent - up from 57 per cent when they were first polled.
