More women to be helped into construction industry

Opportunities for women in the construction industry are set to increase following the success of training programmes aimed at attracting more female workers.
An additional £660,000 is to be given to sector skills council ConstructionSkills over the next three years, after 2,200 women enrolled in its training and support programmes - 20 per cent more than its initial target, Personnel Today reports.
"Gender should be no barrier to a successful career," said skills minister David Lammy.
"It's essential we provide extra support where it can do most good to help women overcome any barriers to recruitment or progression at work."
Launched in 2006, the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills' Women and Work Sector Pathways Initiative has helped nine sector skills councils provide recruitment opportunities for more than 8,000 women.
A further £5 million a year has been pledged by the department for the five most successful skills council projects, which will aim to help 5,000 women per annum.
