'Technology sees office staff work 20 extra days each year'
07/05/2008(16:25)

Employees who use Blackberries, mobile phones and WiFi internet provided by their bosses work an extra 20 days at home each year, research has revealed.

The poll of 1,000 office workers by Office Angels found that one in ten, who can use technology to work from home, check in "constantly" outside of working hours.

Seven per cent feel suffocated by their employer and six per cent are angered by their inability to escape the workplace.

However, two-fifths of workers questioned said remote technology enables them to use their time more effectively, making them more efficient.

David Clubb, managing director of Office Angels, said: "It's important that you maintain a work life balance and keep work in perspective. Occasionally we all need to work outside of normal hours, but this should really be the exception no the rule."

Firms are able to make huge returns by providing staff with new technology, the report claimed.
