School apprentice scheme 'can benefit businesses'
30/07/2008(15:47)

Businesses are being advised by a company managing director (MD) to look towards students to address skills shortages.

Anthony Kittel, MD for Adelaide-based company Redarc Electronics, says that firms can benefit from looking at school-based apprentices.

He told Adelaidenow.com.au that his company needed skilled people "to achieve business growth" and that recruiting two students from the Australian school-based apprenticeships system was "a logical way to proceed".

Jim Fenoughty, principal of the Adelaide South College, also told the site: "We are already partnering with a number of South Australian businesses in metal and engineering, electro technology and the building and construction industries."

It was recently announced that Merredin Senior High School in Western Australia is set to receive $3.9 million (£1.86 million) in funding from the government to construct a training facility for manual labourers, metalworker.com reported.
