IT workers prefer not to settle down

Freelance IT professionals still prefer to work on a temporary basis rather than get long-term contracts, despite the current economic threat.
Giant Group, a payroll service for the temporary market, said that more IT workers are choosing an hourly pay option rather than settling at one company, reports the British Computer Society.
The payroll service said that 54 per cent of workers would choose a higher pay rate rather than a longer contract.
Matthew Brown, managing director of Giant, said: "There is often an upswing in demand for temporary workers during challenging economic conditions as organisations put off hiring permanent staff."
The survey also suggested that this year will be one of the highest paying years for IT contractors in the past five years.
Figures from the report showed that unemployment in the area was 4.4 per cent, a 0.3 per cent drop since last year.
In related news, chief information offices have said that they expect "significant" changes in the way businesses use IT this year, according to Gartner.
