Barristers receive praise from industry

The legal industry has praised the integrity of barristers in a new survey.
According to the Ipsos Mori study, 96 per cent of fellow solicitors and instructors believe barristers to be of integrity as well as honest and intellectual.
Commissioned by the Bar Standards Board (BSB), the research revealed that this view was also shared by 60 per cent of prisoners.
Chair of the BSB Ruth Evans remarked that improvement could still be made to the profession despite the positive feedback.
"Whilst this research demonstrates that there is considerable public and professional confidence in barristers, it also provides us with important evidence about a number of areas of critical importance for the future of the Bar and the services it provides," she noted.
In fact, only 57 per cent of the general public said barristers spent enough time with their clients, while the 89 per cent of the professionals themselves held the same belief.
Established in January 2006, the BSB resulted from a restructuring of duties at the Bar Council.
