Financial advisor work ideal for lawyers
17/04/2008(16:49)

With the rising levels of personal debt in the country, more impartial money advice is needed, with lawyers being particularly suited to the job.

People in the legal profession are ideal to work for organisations like the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB), as it involves conveying legal details and technical information, according to the Independent.

Other prerequisites for the position are having an ability to remain emotionally distant and being able to cope with stress.

David May, who works for the National Debtline, said he was attracted to the role due to financial difficulties he has experienced himself.

"We have people from a range of backgrounds. Some have worked for debt-collection agencies or as bailiffs; others are ex-solicitors or teachers," he told the newspaper.

Alex Watts took a legal-executive course before taking up her position with the CAB, she now helps clients fill out legal forms, such as bankruptcy petitions.

The CAB says it provides free, independent, impartial and confidential advice to any member of the public.
