Travelodge to offer jobs to long-term benefit claimants
08/08/2008(15:27)

Hotel chain Travelodge has revealed that a quarter of jobs advertised through its new recruitment drive will go to long-term benefit claimants.

The company recently pledged to invest £55 million in 55 new hotels at seaside locations across the UK and it aims to invest 25 per cent of staff through its Local Employment Partnership (LEP) with Jobcentre Plus.

In the next 12 months, hotels are set to be opened in Blackpool, Weymouth, Newquay, Bournemouth and Scarborough.

Chrissie Herbert, director of human resources for Travelodge, said that she was "sure" they can find "hotel managers of the future".

"LEPs are a cost effective way for us to access potential new recruits for our hotels," she added.

"We have found the scheme to be exceedingly productive, with 6 per cent of new staff at hotels where we have trialled the initiative coming from LEPs."

A new £30 million luxury hotel currently under construction in St Austell could create up to 480 jobs, compromising 280 during construction and an additional 200 full time hotel jobs when it opens, thisiscornwall.co.uk reports.
