Leeds Arena 'will create 300 jobs'
17/11/2008(11:57)

The creation of a new arena in Leeds could create hundreds of jobs in the city, it has been reported.

Experts have claimed that more than 300 jobs will be generated by the venue announced recently by the local council, according to the Yorkshire Post.

The report noted that the West Yorkshire city is the only major one in the north with out such a facility and it could generate £28 million for the local economy.

However, a row has broken out over regional regeneration agency Yorkshire Forward's support for the project as politicians from nearby Sheffield claim the venue could damage the city's existing arena's trade.

Leeds town hall bosses want the government-backed agency to cover some of the cost of setting up the 12,500-capacity complex, which has been earmarked for a site in the town centre.

Meanwhile, the Shropshire Star reported last week that hundreds of new jobs could be created by the expansion of manufacturing firm Elements Europe in the area.
