Green power sites 'could create 3,000 jobs'

Thousands of new jobs could be created in Tyneside following investment to lure green industries to the region, it has been reported.
Former shipyards - Hadrian Yard and the Neptune Shipyard - could be turned into renewable energy sites with wind turbines, according to the Shields Gazette.
The report notes that marine firm Shepherd Offshore has announced it has signed a deal to buy the two former docks? on the River Tyne.
According to the publication, more than 3,000 jobs could be created at the sites where refurbishment work will begin in the next few months.
"Nick Brown, minister for the north east and MP for Newcastle East and Wallsend, said that one deal is imminent and that it would create 1,000 jobs, revitalising former shipbuilding communities," the newspaper added.
Meanwhile, the Staffordshire Sentinel reported this week that shop-fitting company UNO Group has created dozens of new jobs despite the current financial downturn.
