Tens of thousands of jobs could be created if the UK stopped turning the clocks back by one hour every October, it has been reported.
Up to 80,000 jobs could be generated in both the tourism and leisure sectors if the nation remained in British Summer Time (BST) every winter, one report claims.
According to the Press Association, the Policy Studies Institute maintains that £3 billion could be generated every year in the industries and factory fuel consumption levels would be cut if there was an extra hour of daylight during the winter.
Doctor Mayer Hillman, the report's author, claims tourist activity would go up by four per cent, which would create between 60,000 and 80,000 jobs.
"The study was supported by the British Association of Leisure Parks Piers and Attractions and the Tourism Alliance as a bold but simple way of boosting the economy," the news provider stated.
Meanwhile, Climate minister Ed Miliband has revealed he believes the green energy push in the UK could create a number of new jobs.
