Construction industry 'could introduce health cards'
21/08/2008(15:28)

The construction industry could be set to introduce a new health card to determine what tasks workers can undertake.

A "fitness for task" occupational health card, developed by the Constructing Better Health (CBH) organisation, is set to carry a series of medical information on the employee.

Contractjournal.com reports that the CBH is urging businesses to sign up for the card, which would clear workers to be able to carry out specific duties depending on their state of fitness and general health.

The first card is set to presented to an employee from Dudley and Sons and CBH hopes that contractors register for the service.

Michelle Aldous, CBH chief executive, told the website: "It became apparent that there is a wealth of information regarding safety.

"But, where work-related health is concerned, it is perhaps not so easy to find."

A recent survey by the Learning and Skills Council found that 40 per cent of jobs in the construction industry are unfilled.
