IT pays grads highest amounts
13/11/2007(14:09)

Those who are leaving university and entering a career in IT are most likely to be paid the highest starting salary compared to their fellow graduates, a new survey has revealed.

According to Personnel Today, sister publication Employment Review discovered that IT graduates start on an average of £23,167 a year.

This was only surpassed by those working in the finance industry, who are likely to command a starting wage of £23,487.

On average, graduates can expect to earn £20,100 in their first year after leaving university, although the news source notes that this figure has fallen behind the rate of inflation.

Compared to last year, graduate starting salaries have only increased by three per cent, whereas on the whole, the nation has seen a 3.5 per cent increase in wages over the past 12 months.

A quarter of companies said they had not increased the rate of pay for a graduate starting salary over the past year.

Recent research from Legal Business, as reported in the Times, revealed that hefty pay rises have not been enough to ensure the loyalty of newly-qualified lawyers to one particular firm.
