A number of coal mining jobs could be created in Scotland if proposals for a new opencast mine are approved.
ATH Resources has unveiled its plans for a site in Kirkconnel in Southern Scotland.
The BBC reports that the plans have been approved by the Dumfries and Galloway Council and will now be sent to the Scottish government for a final decision.
Some 1.3 million tonnes of coal is planned to be extracted from the opencast mine, which would operate for two years.
It is reported that ATH claims that 104 jobs would be directly created by the mine and another 135 indirectly produced.
Peter Rogers, practitioner team manager for the Manufacturing Institute, recently said that the UK manufacturing industry is being kept strong by a large demand for exports, with businesses gaining a "strong foothold" in some markets.
