Science and technology graduates to prosper

People with a background in the science and technology industry are likely to find themselves more sought-after than some other sectors in the future, according to a source.
Training in the science and technology industry can give many opportunities, according to the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), which claims the demand for these people is "expected to grow dramatically as the UK continues to develop as a knowledge economy", reports the Times.
It has predicted the demand for people with this training will increase by 730,00 to 2.4 million in six years' time.
Robin McGill, chief executive of the Institution of Engineering, told the newspaper the challenges in the world require "engineers to solve them", among other things.
He adds that the government's move towards more nuclear power stations will provide more jobs to scientists, engineers and technologists.
Terry Croft, chairman of the marketing board at the Institute of Science and Technology, said: "You could be working in manufacturing, for BP or Shell [or in] the pharmaceutical industry. Telecommunications rely hugely on technology; hospitals and the media run on sophisticated machinery. Engineering is everywhere."
According to the CBI, it aims to create and sustain the environment in which to conduct business in the UK.
