Fewer broadcasters 'setting funds aside for training'

There are fears in the media industry that broadcasters could cut training costs due to the current economic climate.
New research from the Broadcast Training and Skills Regulator (BTSR) found that 65 per cent of broadcast companies had set aside funds for staff training.
Personnel Today reports that the figure is down by 13 per cent from the figures 12 months earlier.
Also, only two of the respondents had training budgets of over one per cent of its annual turnover.
Peter Block, BTSR executive director, warned that training budget cuts "could lead to errors or misjudgements", which could result in penalties for the broadcasters.
"We must encourage leaders to engage with the future and the skills and development necessary to keep the UK broadcast industry at the cutting edge of the world's creative economy," he added.
A YouGov survey found that 71 per cent of UK employees favoured a legal move to give them the right to paid leave for training.
