One quarter of new training recruits are men despite a multi-million pound campaign to attract males into the profession, it has been reported.
According to the Independent, teaching is becoming an increasingly female-dominated profession.
The publication cites official figures revealed yesterday (September 25th) which suggest the gap between the sexes is widening as regards to those gaining teacher training qualifications from universities and specialist colleges.
According to the newspaper, schools are facing their worst staffing crisis in years, with more than 2,500 vacancies nationwide.
Meanwhile, it was reported by the Newcastle Journal that a contract to build three new schools in the north-east of England has secured 75 construction jobs for the building work.
GB Building Solutions has taken on the £15.5 million scheme located in Blyth and the firm's regional director told the publication the deal is good news for the construction jobs industry which has been hit by the credit crunch.
