Sedgefield firms creates jobs

A north-east firm has announced it is set to increase its workforce by three-fold over the course of the next 18 months, it has been reported.

Kromek has signalled it intends to expand its base at NetPark in Sedgefield due to booming trade, according to the Northern Echo.

Chief executive Arnab Basu told the publication business is growing at such a rate that the firm will need to boost staff levels form 32 to around 100 through to 2010.

Professor Basu added the firm is planning on expanding across the Atlantic to the US and plans would be annoucned in the coming weeks.

The firm has already made distribution agreements with firms in the Middle East and Europe as its 3D colour x-ray technology is being used in the medical and industrial sectors.

According to the report, the firm is targeting a presence in the US' multi-billion dollar health sector.

Kromek was formerly known as Durham Scientific Crystals before it was incorporated in April 2003.
