A new gas-fired power station in the north-west of England could provide up to 600 construction jobs in the region.
The £500 million plant, set to be built on a site at Carrington, near Sale, has been devised by Bridestone Developments.
Mike Benson, from the developers, told the Manchester Evening News that building work is expected to begin in early 2009.
He added that the final designs of the station are not subject to approval from Trafford council, after they were given the green light by the Department of Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.
"We are delighted that the government has approved our plans," added Mr Benson.
"We will now focus on the design details and a construction programme."
The Manchester Evening News recently reported that the proposed expansion to the Metrolink network across the city could create over 3,000 jobs.
