Firms told to keep staff
17/09/2008(16:24)

Firms are being urged to cut wastage instead of jobs, it has been reported.

One corporate social responsibility (CSR) adviser is calling on businesses to tailor their CSR efforts to the deteriorating financial climate, according to the Financial Times.

Business for Social Responsibility maintains that managers should crack down on energy wastage rather than axing jobs to cut costs.

Eric Olson, one of the firm's senior managers, told the publication CSR is about disciplined action and capability-building to sustain and increase an organisation's core assets.

Karl Ramjohn, an environmental consultant, told the newspaper he felt there would be an increase in the number of external consultants retained by companies on a contract to address specific issues.

It was reported by the BBC earlier in the week that the Ministry of Defence is set to make an announcement on the future of a Shropshire RAF base.

Metrix Consortium won a contract last year and it is expected it would move RAF Cosford to RAF Athan in south Wales.
