Report reveals temporary jobs increase
05/03/2008(18:03)

The latest jobs market report from KPMG and the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has revealed that temporary positions increased in February.

According to the two organisations, temporary/contract staff billings increased at their fastest rate in three months.

Helen Reynolds, acting chief executive officer at the REC, said that the rising demand for such workers demonstrated the "crucial support" offered by agency staff, Abecedar reports.

"As a result, it is crucial to ensure that proposed new regulations on agency work - such as those included in the recent private members bill - do not have a negative impact on the UK’s temp model," she remarked.

Meanwhile, the report showed that permanent appointments fell for the first time since May 2003.

The REC represents the recruitment industry, which is currently estimated to be worth £24.5 billion to the country's economy.

Its membership presently includes 8,000 recruitment agencies and businesses, as well as 6,000 recruitment professionals.
