'Career more important than money to NW accountants'
01/07/2008(16:14)

A new survey has found that accountants in the north-west of England rank career progression as more important than a high salary.

Location was also found to be considered more important than wages in the study conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW)

Accountancy Magazine reports that the average salary for an accountant in the north-west stands £62,600 with an average bonus of £12,600, according to figures from the ICAEW and recruitment company Robert Half shows

This is in comparison to the UK average wage for an accountant which was found to be £74,400 plus £21,700 bonus.

Accountants based in London take home £93,600 with a £39,500 bonus.

Rodger Owen, president of the Manchester Society of Chartered Accountants, told the magazine: "Salary levels obviously vary tremendously between the city of London and the north-west, but as the survey reveals, money is not the be-all and end-all as far as our members are concerned."

A recent study of sleeping patterns by Travelodge found that accountants get an average of only six hours and 24 minutes of sleep a night.
