Plans to expand a building to create a bigger Tesco store in Peterborough city centre could create more than 100 jobs.
Tesco is planning on putting a new store on the Rainbow foodstore site and has submitted plans to expand the building to three times the size, reports the Evening Telegraph.
If expanded the store will take on new staff and offer a wider range of products.
Michael Kissman, Tesco spokesman, said: "Everyone who is working there will be kept on and, if expansion plans come to fruition, more than 100 new jobs will be created at the site."
Mr Kissman told the paper that the plans have had good feedback and that the local community would be consulted throughout.
The expansion plans focus on the Werrington Centre and would involve demolishing and relocating the Ploughman pub.
At the end of the week Tesco will take over the store and will perform a three month refit before reopening, whilst the planning application is decided on.
The supermarket giant claims it is the UK's largest private sector employer, and provides the best benefits package in the industry.
