11/04/2008(17:40)

A redevelopment of a supermarket in Cardiff will create 300 new jobs, when it becomes a Tesco Extra.

The expansion of the store will boost the staff from the current level of 200, to 500 employees.

Plans have been submitted to expand the store on the existing St Mellons site.

Felix Gummer, a spokesman for the Cardiff council, with who the application will be submitted, said: "We want to bring more people into the area."

Tesco recently announced that it planned to create 100 extra jobs with the expansion of its Peterborough store, reported the Evening Telegraph.

Michael Kissman, a spokesman for Tesco, said: "Everyone who is working there will be kept on and, if expansion plans come to fruition, more than 100 new jobs will be created at the site."

He added that the plans for the store had received good feedback so far and that the local community would be consulted throughout the process.
