Wind farm expansion to generate jobs in Scotland
30/07/2008(15:46)

An extension to a wind farm in East Lothian is expected to create up to 50 new jobs.

Natural Power is set to build nine more wind turbines at its Crystal Rig site near to Dunbar and will double its workforce as part of a £22 million investment.

The company currently operates 77 turbines on the site and estimates that the expansion could power more than 13,000 homes in the region.

Scotland's first minister Alex Salmond unveiled the plans while opening Natural Power's expanded offices in Dalry, southern Scotland.

He told the BBC: "I am delighted that Natural Power is growing as a company and growing in Scotland.

"I wish both Natural Power and Crystal Rig a long and prosperous future in renewable energy in Scotland."

A new £400 million energy plant which is set to be created in Teesside by MGT Power is expected to bring 600 construction jobs and up to 400 other jobs when it is operational in 2012.
