Proposals could create 1,000 Lancashire jobs
16/09/2008(17:36)

Proposals to regenerate a former plumbing and drainage firm's site could bring 1,000 new jobs to East Lancashire, it has been reported.

The scheme being proposed to rejuvenate the former Hepworth Building Products site at Pollard Moor, Hapton, has been given the support of Burnley council, according to the Burnley Citizen.

Locals claim a major revamp of a nearby M65 junction would boost developer Ribbleton Estate's plans, which Hapton parish council claim could cause traffic problems.

Robert Golding, parish council spokesman, told the publication: "This site is really welcome for employment purposes and this is what the parish council wants for the land. It is a golden opportunity to bring jobs to Hapton and Padiham."

However, the junction should be made to serve both ways in order to avoid big traffic jams along the A679 coming from the Preston direction.

It was reported yesterday by 4NI.co.uk that a new organisation has been created to save thousands of construction jobs in Northern Ireland.

The Construction & Property Group is taking its fight to save workers to the Stormont.
