Graduates jobs can be very lucrative
04/02/2008(16:41)

Graduates have many fast routes to high paid jobs and it is not always necessary to have a degree, according to a source.

The Times has investigated the most profitable jobs for graduates, with legal recruitment coming high up the list.

Alex Wiseman is a law graduate who opted to go into the recruitment industry as he wanted to deal with people rather than documents.

He now earns a six-figure sum and his overall package is more than some of his fellow law graduates who opted for the legal route, reports the Times.

Another niche market for graduates is surveying with qualified surveyors earning more than £50,000 after a few years.

The legal profession is still a lucrative market with newly qualified lawyers earning £65,000 by their mid-twenties, but these jobs are limited.

Mr Wiseman said: "A lot of people choosing to study law at university think all lawyers earn big sums and don't realise that these big headline salaries are for City lawyers."

A recent report by the Association of Graduate Recruiters said that there will be more graduate positions available in 2008, with the average salary being £24,000.
