New jobs to green Cumbria?

A new bid to improve the Lake District's green credentials could create new jobs in the region, it has been reported.
Cumbria county council has commissioned a Yorkshire-based consultancy to find out how much waste is created by the area's tourist industry, according to the North-West Evening Mail.
Resource Futures will get in touch with a range of hotels, bed and breakfasts and pubs to establish how much waste they create and what they do about it.
Cumbria County Councils waste prevention manager Martin Allman said: "We are very pleased that this work is going to be carried out.
"If a recycling scheme could be introduced specifically for this waste, it will not only result in local jobs, but also make our tourism industry more environmentally friendly."
According to the report, the Lake District's tourism industry produces around 37,000 tonnes of waste a year and the authority aims to make it more sustainable and attractive as a green destination.
Meanwhile, it has been reported by the Burnley and Pendle Citizen that one new business park in Burnley could create more than one thousand new jobs.
