Boat builder looking to assemble workforce
01/09/2008(11:56)

A yacht building firm is looking to employ up to 800 workers at its planned site in Southampton.

US company Palmer Johnson is currently looking to recruit the first wave of people for its site in Woolston.

The Daily Echo reports that it is searching for people from 24 different trades, including manual roles in carpentry and upholstery to office based positions such as management and accounting.

Royston Smith, council cabinet member for economic development, told the newspaper that it was "wonderful" that the firm was looking to continually increase the number of people employed at the site.

"This is going to bring lots of skilled jobs to the area, not just on the boat yard but all industries that are involved with the company or the workforce," he added.

A recent YouGov study found that ten per cent of workers in the UK fear for their job security over the coming 12 months.
