'Female IT workers lack confidence about future careers'

Less than half of women working in the IT sector are confident about their future careers, research has revealed.
The survey by networking portal womenintechnology.co.uk found that 41 per cent of female IT employees are positive about the years ahead while 65 per cent lack a clear vision of what they hope to achieve in their careers.
Motherhood was highlighted by many women as an issue that may damage their success in the years to come at its recent "How to get ahead in IT" event, the website said.
Others cited concerns over knowing how to progress in their careers while some women said they found it difficult to market themselves.
"The majority of the women believed they were the driver of their own success with many updating their CV regularly
and speaking with management so that others are aware of their achievements," said Maggie Berry, director of womenintechnology.co.uk.
However, many cited difficulties in marketing themselves in this way," she added.
The news follows research from the Center for Work-Life Policy in New York Key which claimed the prevalence of a "time warp" of 1970s sexist attitudes is causing women in their late thirties to leave their careers in science and technology, the Times reports.
