Government promotes IT sector

The UK's trade and investment minister has launched a new marketing strategy aimed at promoting the UK's IT sector.
Announcing the move, Lord Digby Jones said that over one million UK jobs depend on the country's IT sector, which has "unquestionable" importance to the country's economy.
"It is no coincidence that many ICT firms have their European HQ as well as their research and development operation based here," he claimed.
The UK's "highly-skilled" workforce and tax environment are significant incentives for companies to choose the UK, he added.
The strategy is expected to focus on certain sub-sectors and technologies within the industry that the UK holds a "comparative advantage".
In related news, recent research by ATSCo and SkillsMarket discovered that the number of IT workers looking for jobs in the UK has fallen during the fourth quarter of the year, Contractor UK reports.
However, the firm said that demand for skills within the sector continues to be "strong".
