28/11/2008(16:20)

A West Midlands-based care provider is set to announce hundreds of new jobs in the region as part of its expansion programme, it has been reported.

Claimar is seeking 1,500 new employees nationwide of which one-third will be in the Midlands, according to the Birmingham Post.

The Edgbaston firm currently employs around 3,500 carers and support staff to look after individuals in their home.

Mark Hales, the chief executive of the company, told the publication: "The 1,500 positions we are actively recruiting are the continuation of our 2008/2009 programme for care contracts that we already have in place or are due to begin imminently."

He added that the firm is constantly bidding on new contracts when they are renewed by local authorities nationwide.

Meanwhile, plans have been submitted to replace Cromer hospital in Norfolk which could create new construction jobs in the area.

David Prior, a National Health Service Foundation Trust chairman, said the group is in a welcomed position to put money into the local economy.
