A new report has found an increased demand for finance jobs in Australia as firms look to reduce costs.
The Robert Half Global Financial Employment Monitor 2008-2009 found that 54 per cent of Australian businesses said they had "difficulty" attracting talented and experienced accountants, as well as other finance professionals.
In the survey it was also found that 62 per cent of companies expressed concern about losing top finance workers to other job opportunities.
Nigel Barcham, managing director of Robert Half Australia & New Zealand, said the "demand will continue to outpace supply".
"Accounting and finance are core business functions vital to an organisation's success in any economy. Australia is now experiencing a growing need for these professionals as firms seek to identify cost efficiencies and control expenses," he added.
A recent study by recruitment firm Kelly Services found that 48 per cent of Australians regretted the subject they studied and 71 per cent wished they had remained in education for longer.
