An agricultural products company has announced a new finance package for its sites in Huddersfield and Grangemouth.
The £75 million investment by Syngenta will create up to 50 new jobs producing an increased amount of azoxystrobin, a key ingredient in fungicide Amistar, at its Grangemouth plant, the BBC reports.
Mark Peacock, head of global operations for Sygenta, told the BBC that over 70 countries use the fungicide to increase crop yield.
"Global food supply needs to increase by 50 per cent over the next 20 years if growing demand is to be met," he said.
"Today's announcement will enable Syngenta and the UK to play a leading role in providing growers around the world with the tools they need to protect and improve yield".
It was recently revealed that a new opencast coal mine in Douglas could create 93 jobs for the local area, the Hamilton Advertiser reported.
