A number of construction jobs could be created on a new development at one of York's educational campuses.
The University of York has unveiled Shepherd Construction as the contractor to build the new Goodricke College.
Based at its Heslington East campus, the £25 million project will provide a site for a number of university departments, together with accommodation for over 600 students and staff.
The development is set to feature key sustainable features, including an urban drainage system.
Construction is expected to begin this month and be completed by October 2009.
Professor Brian Cantor, the university's vice-chancellor, said that Shepherd Construction has played in "important role" in York's development.
"It gives us great pleasure to appoint such a respected local company as the main contractor for the initial building of the University's historic expansion at Heslington East," he added.
It was recently revealed that contractors Westfield are set to double the number of construction workers which it employs on its new retail development in Shepherd's Bush.
