UK workers 'not comfortable asking for pay rise'
15/07/2008(15:03)

A new survey has found that one in six employees will not ask for a pay rise.

Figures from human resource services provider Ceridian found that only 19 per cent of people under the age of 34 would feel comfortable asking for a pay rise.

Online Recruitment reports that this figure rose to 81 per cent of people over 35 who "feel confident" about asking for extra money.

The survey also found that one in 33 respondents would rather leave an organisation than ask their bosses for a pay rise.

Karan Paige, chief people officer for Ceridian UK, told the website: "There tends to be a strong correlation between successful companies and a reward strategy that has the correct balance between fixed and variable pay, with the variable element being strongly aligned to performance."

The website recently reported on a different study by The Vodaphone Group Foundation, which found that the average worker is 63 per cent fulfilled by their job.
