'Thousands' of jobs saved

Thousands of jobs have been saved in an effort to help fight the recession, it has been revealed.
James Purnell, work and pensions secretary, commented Jobcentre Plus offices around the UK are set to remain open, despite recent closure proposals.
Mr Purnell stated the decision shows that the government is "taking action".
He added to the Times: "Action on the economy and action to help people face the effects of the global crisis."
The work and pensions secretary went on to say the measures will create 6,000 jobs in the centres next year.
He claimed this has been achieved through an extra £1.3 billion of investment to help the sector.
Earlier this week, it was revealed government plans for the construction industry could create new jobs.
The pre-Budget report measures include meeting international renewable energy targets, a move which could result in an upturn in positions in the sector for UK workers.
