Over 700 jobs could be created in Victoria if approval is given to plans for a new gas-fired power station.
Energy company Santos has revealed plans to develop the $800 million station near Orford.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports that 730 jobs would be created throughout the construction of the power station, according to the company.
It is hoped that the site could supply 500 megawatts, with the potential to grow to 1,500 megawatts by 2020.
A decision on the plans will depend on Santos securing investment and will then rest on the local government.
Peter Batchelor, energy minister, told the newspaper that the site would help to "reduce greenhouse gas emissions" across Victoria.
"The natural gas fired power station would move Victoria's energy mix towards cleaner energy, emitting up to 70 per cent less greenhouse gas than brown coal."
Australian mining company Westgold recently claimed that over 200 jobs could be created after a large discovery of gold was made in the Rover Gold Field, ABC News reported.
