A large media organisation is set to create 40 jobs focusing on new media skills.
The Telegraph Media Group, which owns a number of publications, has revealed plans for the new roles which will replace those currently undertaken by casual staff.
Richard Ellis, executive director of editorial for the group, wrote to staff its publications informing them of the new "wide-ranging and exciting" jobs.
The roles will include 18 content editors for multi-skilled journalists, six reporting jobs, seven "data mapping" jobs and five part-time production roles.
Jeremy Dear, general secretary of the National Union of Journalists, told the Press Gazette that the proposals could pose problems.
Tanya Hine, the president of the British Association of Women Entrepreneurs recently said that the discrepancy between male and female salaries can only be resolved over time and is set to exist for "a lot of years".
