Nuclear project to create 15,000 jobs
04/12/2008(15:12)

Thousands of new jobs could be created as two industrial giants were brought in to help build the UK's next fleet of nuclear power stations.

Balfour Beatty will form a partnership with French firm Areva to bid for the nation's nuclear reactor projects.

Construction work could start on the first site in 2013 and the programme would create 15,000 over the course of 25 years.

The firm has also formed a joint venture with the Vinci Consctruction for the programme's building, civil engineering and project management schemes.

Ian Tyler, Balfour Beatty's chief executive, said the firm was delighted to work with Areva.

He added: "Balfour Beatty has a strong heritage in the nuclear sector and the breadth and depth of expertise to deliver large and complex multidisciplinary engineering and construction projects."

The Birmingham Post reported this week that Capita will create 280 new jobs after it won a contract to launch a new recycling scheme.
