IT standards to be updated
24/10/2007(14:18)

The National Standards for IT are to be updated this year and bosses are being asked to help.

Employers are being invited to talk about IT skills in the workplace, which could mean a shake-up of training and development in the industry.

The sector skills council for IT and telecoms, e-skills, is to look at assessment of IT professionals as well as technology users in a move that could mean changes are afoot in the industry.

Over a course of seven meetings around the UK, bosses will be asked to discuss the training, development and assessment of both professionals and users, in the hope a consistent nationals standards guide can be devised by e-skills.

The body is hoping that standardisation of IT skills will mean employers should be able to look at an application form and CV and understand the level of technology that a job applicant can work with.

A recent poll by Samsung Electronics found employees feel they could work more efficiently if they had better access to IT services and training.
